A good book that deals heavily in the MIPS architecture (the authors are
some of the original MIPS designers) I enjoyed reading was "Computer
Organisation & Design: the hardware/software interface" by David A.
Patterson and John L. Hennessy (Publisher Morgan Kauffman). It pretty much
shows you how to build a CPU from the ground up. I'm not sure on any good
references on the SuperH series.
